Non-human primate infusion and sampling systems
The most published part of our range
More of our published citations involve non-human primates than any other model. Cynomolgus, rhesus, marmosets and African greens, in ambulatory and tethered configurations, down to animals as small as 1 kg.

Ambulatory system
The pump rides on the animal in a jacket. No tether, no swivel, and the animal is free to move in its normal housing.
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Access port | Cath-In-Cath 2, 5 Fr to 6 Fr |
| Infusion pump | 6000 CMS, AB-6000 |
| Infusion set | Cath-In-Cath infusion set, CIC-20G |
| Reservoir | Drug bag or cassette, sized to the protocol |
| Jacket | Primate jacket, sizing on the jackets page |
Tethered system
The pump sits outside the cage and the line runs through a swivel, for higher flow rates, larger reservoirs and studies that run longer than a jacket-mounted reservoir allows.
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Access port | Cath-In-Cath 2, 5 Fr to 6 Fr |
| Infusion pump | CURLIN 8000 CMS, AB-8000CMS, or 6000 CMS, AB-6000 |
| Infusion set | Cath-In-Cath infusion set, CIC-20G |
| Swivel and tether | Large animal tether, 18 ga swivel |
| Jacket | Primate jacket, sizing on the jackets page |
Smart pumps with remote monitoring are available. We assess your requirements individually and design the tethered system around them.
We design around inadvertent disconnect, minimization of dead space, pump weight, accuracy and kinking.
CSF and intrathecal
CSFCath, 3-6 French and 4-6 French radiopaque polyurethane with a purpose-built sealing and anchoring system, usable with or without Cath-In-Cath 2 ports. CSF36, CSF46.
IntraPort, the only all-plastic intrathecal port with a Borst-type connector, suited to imaging studies. Percutaneous implantation using an intraspinal needle introducer. ITP-3N.
Other access routes
Vascular access is the common case. These are built to protocol for non-human primate work on the same port and catheter platform.
- CSF and intrathecal. Long-term CSF collection and CNS dosing, via the IntraPort with matched catheters and introducer
- Duodenal. Enteral dosing and absorption work, catheter and port built to the route
- Bile. Total bile collection with the BileCath T-tube occluder system
- SubQ and IP. Subcutaneous and intraperitoneal configurations on request
In the literature
Published primate work using AVA hardware includes CSF collection model refinement, juvenile femoral catheter outcomes, taurolidine-citrate patency studies, and ambulatory infusion models, carried out at major contract research organizations and pharmaceutical laboratories. See publications.
